Congratulations to our Year 6 boys football team. After qualifying by winning the Truro and St Austell area tournament, they competed in the county finals. This is for the top 8 teams in the county, at Newquay Sports centre. The boys won their group, with wins against Carbeille of Saltash and Wadebridge and a draw against St Hilarys of Penzance. This was followed by a closely fought semi-final against Looe, which we won 1-0. They played brilliantly and remained unbeaten while not conceding a single goal on route to final against Trewirgie. A well matched and competitive final went to extra time and, unfortuantely, we lost in the last 5 seconds of the game. Well done to Ben, Callum, Liam, Danny, Sam, Kieran, Alex, Tim and Jamie.

Last week, Year 6 held a Victorian school day, where they dressed in Victorian clothes and took part in Victorian lessons. The teachers and discipline were harsh and strict, just as they were in Victorian times. By the end, some of the children realised that maybe things aren't quite as bad these days as they thought ! Here are some pictures of the day.

6T held their own debate and mock courtroom, set in Victorian times. They debated the question, 'Should we abolish child labour?'. Each child adopted a relevant Victorian role/character for the debate, such as textile mill owner, factory owner, chimney sweep, workhouse owner, parent, working child, government minister, charity reformer and even Lord Shaftsbury and Dr Barnado themselves! They prepared and delivered some excellent arguments. Many of the children decided to really get into character by wearing costumes! Here are a few pictures of the afternoon.

The (almost) very serious mill and factory owners, who were against it being abolished.

On Friday 9th October, local author Susan Morris visited year 6 to talk about her new book, Fritha's Summer, and her writing career. She read parts of the book to the children and gave us our own copy to keep. Children then asked her questions about the book and writing in general. It was a very interesting afternoon.

It has been a great week for the school football team. Last Friday, the team travelled to St Austell to play in the mid-Cornwall qualifying round of this year's County Championships. The team played brilliantly to win all of their games and the tournament, against some very tough opposition. First up were last year's county champions, Sandy Hill. They had an incredible player who played like a young Lional Messi; the ball just seemed glued to his feet. We took a 2 nil half time lead, with two fantastic goals, and looked strong defensively. Mid way through the second half, Sandy Hill scored with an incredible solo dribble from 'Messi'. However, after a tese final quarter of the match, we managed to cling on to ebsure the best possible start. This was followed by a confident and commanding 3-1 victory against Tywardreth. After winning their pool, the boys had qualified for the final group of 3. Here, they beat Biscovey and Mount Charles to win the tournament. The boys played some fantastic one and two touch passing football, scoring many goals, including 4 for Jamie Shaw and 2 for Kieran Roskell-Thomas. However, these attacking displays were built on confident and solid defensive performances from goalie Ben Peters and defenders Callum Sidwell and Liam Medlin. The most exciting game was an extremely close match against Biscovey. We won an incredibly tight encounter, with the goal coming from a Kieran. However, another key moment was Sam Barnicoat's last gasp goal line clearance when a Biscovey goal had looked a certainty. They will now go to the County finals, at Biscovey School, Par, on Friday November 6th. Well done Ben, Callum, Liam, Alex, Danny, Kieran, Sam and Jamie!

They then had to recover quickly, as on Monday they had the first match of this year's Truro Large Schools 7-aside league, against Kea. Another excellent team performance resulted in a 7-1 victory, including 4 goals for Daniel Alford (including one direct from a corner!). The other goals were scored by Callum, Kieran and Sam (although Jamie is still trying to claim it!).

Huge thanks to the parents who helped take the children to these events.
