We are continuing our "Ideal home" topic this half term and plan to be focussing on homes of the future. To go with this we are also studying light and shadows and environmental issues.
In English we are currently resaerching info about our favourite authors and will be writing to them over the next couple of weeks.

Congratulations to Charlotte for winning the handwriting competition. She is now the proud owner of a fountain pen.
Josephine has also gained her pen licence this week.
I'm hoping that there will be many more of you joining the 2 girls in being able to use pens soon. Keep practicing.

We all really enjoyed our visit to Chysauster ancient village. The children drew sketches of the houses, measured them and tried to work out what each room would have been used for.

This half term we are working on the topic of "My ideal Home". You will have the opportunity to visit homes from the past, study homes of the present and learn about the lastest energy saving ideas to help you to design an ideal home of the future.
The fun starts with a visit to Chysauster ancient village near Penzance.

The spellings this week focus on past tense endings. To turn a word into the past tense you need to add "ed". Sometimes you need to do something else too. Have a look at the words in the spelling list and try to work out what happened to the word when "ed" was added.

blue and green
hug, hugged, hum, hummed

You need to practice some of your spellings every day. Try to use joined writing, too.

This week we have been looking at fractions of numbers and measurements. Chech here muffins.pdf for a recipe for Christmas muffins. You will need to scale it down so only use a quarter of each amount.
I have also included the recipes for the other fraction food that we did in class this week.

Next week we will be finding out about how rules and laws are made and what happens when they are broken. We are hoping to include a visit to the crown court in Truro. When details are confirmed a permission letter will be sent out. Watch this space for more details.

These are this weeks spellings. We are revising more words that end -le. The spelligs are: double, horrible, simple, bible, terrible, example, grumble, sensible, responsible and obstacle
Children can use each word in a sentence to practice their spellings for homework.

Last week we began to look at religious festivals. We are going to continue with this, this week. Why not research a festival and make a poster to tell the class all about who celebrates it, how they celebrate and when they celebrate. We can display your posters on the board at school.

This week I have put each child into a spelling group with a colour name (red, yellow, or blue) Here are the spellings for each group:
Red: out, went, down
Remember to read the word aloud, count the letters on your fingers as you say the letter names, cover it up and have a go at writing it, check you have the correct number of letters, then check your spelling.
Yellow: This week's focus is on irregular past tense verbs - blow, blew, grow, grew, sing, sang, ring, rang
Blue: learn the yellow group spellings plus - think and thought.
All groups need to practice a few spellings each day and try to use neat, joined handwriting.

This week we are looking at prefix words again. We are focussing on the prefixes de, re, pre, and mis. The base words that you need to learn are:
code, frost, place, write, view, pay, fire, count.
You will be tested next week on the base words plus the correct prefix.

This week's maths homework is all about number bonds and subtraction. Remember to use a number line to work these out, if you need to - also take away the tens first then jump to the nearest multiple of ten then take away the last bit (use your number bonds to help you)

This week's spellings are words with prefixes. Your child needs to learn the base word and will then be tested on the base word with the prefix. Here are the base words:
happy, form, please, build, agree, fix, cycle, usual, obey, lucky
It is a good idea to practice a few each day to help your child fix the spelling into their long term memory.
