Bravo Les Enfants!! | |
| No | We have been retelling the Greek myth of Theseus and the Minotaur today using cues to help. The classroom was set up like a Greek theatre and we judged whether or not the retellings kept us entertained or not. Any retelling that was not deemed worthy by our judges resulted in the storytellers being fed to lions! We all made it out alive! | |

| No | It is lovely to see the children so smart in their school uniforms, excited to see their friends and to find out what has changed at school! Many of you may have seen the new adventure Trim Trail park that was constructed over the summer holidays, if not come and have a swing! The children love the park, and those that are well behaved, are rewarded with time to explore it. Many thanks again to everyone involved in raising the money for this project. | |

Following a very successful trip to Kingsbridge Discovery Centre, where Year 5 and 6 met Charles, a Ugandan farmer, we now plan to grow our own plants in the keyhole garden. This project, set up by Miss Kennedy, has given the children a fascinating insight into the world of sustainable farming and has captured their interest and enthusiasm.

| No | What an exciting week it was last week! On Friday we held a debate as part of our literacy topic on 'Persuasive Writing'. James chaired our debate, acting as Mr Speaker. The classroom was set out in a similar way to the House of Commons. One side of the 'House' was keen to enforce school uniform; the other side of the 'House' was keen to abolish it. The children had to refer to each other as 'Right Honourable Gentlemen' or 'Right Honourable Ladies'. Although the debate was heated at times, Mr Speaker called the 'House' to order with ease! All of the children enjoyed this thoroughly. | |

There was also the opportunity to meet with class teachers in the hall to discuss the year ahead and find out more about what was happening in the classrooms over the coming term. The evening was rouded off with a 'hot dog' supper prepared and served by Helen and Wendy (school cooks). This raised £30.00 towards school funds. A further £25.00 was raised by the sale of cakes and refreshments prepared and served by Zara and Mel on behalf of the Friends of St Maurice School. Thank you to all who made the evenng such a success.

The Labs are open to the public this weekend 20th March from 10-4 - its free, so pop along and see what you can feel inside the mystery holes! | 30/04/2010 |
| No | Wow, what an exciting week we have had in year 5. Not only have we visited Ridgeway School with the year 6 children to investigate 'The Science of Spying', but we have also carried out several experiments in our own classroom. As well as firing bottle rockets into the air and using a Mentos mint and Diet Coca Cola to make a cola fountain by creating a chemical reaction that released carbon dioxide, we have also carried out an experiment to investigate how different liquids affected egg shells. We made sure it was a fair test by only changing the liquid. Interestingly, it was the fresh orange juice (with bits in!) that affected the egg shell the most and had even dissolved it in different places. It affected the egg shell even more than the cola, which surprised many of us. Remember to brush your teeth!
Just a reminder to say our multiplication and division test that we missed today due to our visit out of school will be on Monday. | 01/08/2010 |
