Celebration assembly
Catherine Wayte Primary School opened on 6th September 2000 and we celebrated our 10th anniversary in a special assembly attended by the children, members of staff and special guests; Mr Paddy Bradley, Mr David Renard, the Bishop of Swindon (Dr Lee Rayfield), Miss Celia Messenger, Mrs Kathy Dell and Mrs Debra Andrews. The whole school sang the school song with great enthusiasm and visitors were able to join in with ‘Peace, perfect peace’. The school prayer was said and the Bishop of Swindon also led a prayer.
Mrs Brown, deputy head teacher shared some information about the school when it opened saying, ‘Catherine Wayte Primary School opened in September 2000. Mrs Ching, the first head teacher of our school, had a team of 5 teachers and 4 teaching assistants. The team included Miss Messenger, who took over as head teacher in 2004. Mrs Dell was our school’s first administrative manager.
Our school was named after the daughter of Arthur Evans, a local landowner, and High Sheriff of Wiltshire. Catherine married Simon Wayte and lived at Groundwell Farm. Catherine Wayte believed that all children, regardless of the impoverished backgrounds they came from, had an entitlement to be educated and she set up a school for local children. Our school logo reflects the farming heritage of the land on which our school is built.’
Four of our Y5 children were born in September 2000....George, Kate, Maya and Jevan. They were good babies and did all the things good babies are supposed to do and over the years they have grown and developed. In the same way, our school has grown and developed from 2000-2010. Catherine Wayte Primary School remains popular, successful and committed to the vision statement ‘Many working as one, striving for the best’.
Mr Paddy Bradley likes our vision statement.
‘Circle time’ was held in each class and every child was able to say something about the school...something special or important or something they like. A representative from each class shared their ideas in the assembly:
The children listen to each others’ thoughts.
Iris: We are proud to be at Catherine Wayte because everyone works together to make learning fun and we are always given the chance to share our thoughts and ideas. We know we are safe and welcome and we love to take all of the opportunities that we can - whether that’s through lessons, clubs, the School Council, Eco Warriors or by being buddies. We are proud to follow in the footsteps of other children and hope that some day other children will be proud to follow in ours.
Thomas: I think sharing assembly is great because people can share their wonderful work.
Jessica: Our school is so very special because all children and adults work as a caring team to make the learning environment the very best it can be. All adults teach us to be safe inside and outside of school. We believe we can be the best we can be at anything we try.
Freya: I like everything about this school. I feel really happy when I am here.
Alyssa: Catherine Wayte is very special because we work together and get more gems inside us.
Talo: Our school is a very special place because it has lovely kind children and teachers and is a safe place where we play together.
Keira: Catherine Wayte is special to Apollo 2 because everyone is so kind and caring. The head teacher, teachers and all the staff are very jolly and brilliant at their jobs. The children are friendly and support each other at playtimes and when learning. We like all of our subjects and enjoy doing Literacy and Numeracy with different teachers and having different children in our classes. The staff support all children and help us achieve our goals and they only make us try our best. We think gems help us to become better learners and develop our own personal qualities to be better people in the community.
Kara: At Catherine Wayte people respect you. There are no bad attitudes in our school. Teachers are very kind and helpful.
Ethan: People show enthusiasm and are kind. Teachers are nice. Teachers and teaching assistants work well together. Everybody tries their best. Nobody moans if the work is too hard. No other school will be the same.
Rhys: This is my last year at Catherine Wayte Primary School and I have made so many friends who could never be replaced. At Catherine Wayte we don’t take things for granted and I think people always try their hardest and don’t need to worry if they make mistakes. At this school we have never ending gems and two of these gems are inspiration and perseverance. Voyager 6 feel that the school always has a welcoming atmosphere and that children really enjoy coming to school. We think that the staff are very friendly and make learning fun. At Catherine Wayte everyone works as a team and you are never alone.
Cards and balloons are presented.
At the end of the assembly, George, Kate, Maya and Jevan presented the guests with a card and an anniversary balloon. A tour of the school followed and visitors’ comments included:
What a fabulous school. Here’s to the next 10 years!
Thank you for inviting me back to share this very special time with you. The school is always a very welcoming place!
It has been wonderful to see my extended family and know that everyone is in such safe hands. Thank you very much for such a special day. The feeling in the school is a great testament to you all. Very best wishes to a great school.
There is a very special atmosphere in the school and that particularly came through in the children’s personal comments and reflections.
Party
At the end of the day, pupils, staff and PTA members gathered together in the playground to sing ‘Happy birthday’ to the school. Everyone enjoyed a piece of cake and a drink and the children left to go home with an anniversary balloon and a big smile on their faces.
