Meetings of the full Governing Body are to be held on seven Thursday evenings: 8 September, 13 October, 8 December, 9 February, 29 March, 24 May, 5 July. The Staffing Committee will meet three times, Finance, Premises and Learning and Teaching six times during the academic year.

What have we been up to?

Some governors have attended training including Child Protection Training. Governors are fully involved in working in partnership with the staff 

We have been involved in interviewing and appointing new members of staff, working with teachers at TD days, School Improvement Planning, supporting teaching and learning during theme weeks and developing accommodation at the school. Three governors were interviewed during the OFSTED inspection process last year.

Who are we?

 

 

Mr David Cassidy : Chair of Governors

I work as an accountant in business planning and performance management for the environment agency in Bristol. I have a particular interest in finance and eco-schools. I am delighted with the installation of solar panels during the summer of 2011.
I have two daughters, one in Y7 and one in Y3. 

Mrs Laura Brierley : Head Teacher
 
I am proud to have been Head Teacher of Catherine Wayte Primary School since my appointment in January 2007. This is my second headship and I have been a teacher for 32 years. My husband is a teacher. We have two daughters, aged 24 and 19. The older daughter is a teacher too!

 
   Miss Samantha Ward : Vice-chair

I live in Abbey Meads and work in Oxford for the world’s leading publisher of science and health information.  I have been a governor for Catherine Wayte since 2005 and serve on the Finance and Staffing Committees and most recently appointed Vice Chair.  I am regularly involved in the recruitment process for the school and usually help out at events such as the summer fete.

     Mr Phil Young : LA governor

Phil Young currently has two children attending the school.  As a former Swindon Borough Councillor, Phil has a good level of knowledge of how the Council works, especially in respect of its funding and the processes that the Council operates.
Phil runs his own company which also gives him a broad base of expertise, especially financial knowledge to draw upon.

 


  Miss Kate Jackson : community governor

 
    Mr Mike Todd : parent governor

I have been a parent governor for the last four years and have really enjoyed my time on the governing body. I am chair of the Teaching and Learning committee and also attend the premises committee. I have also been involved with the school travel plan and have been working to make the car park easier and safer for parents and children. I am also the governor responsible for child protection in the school.

  I have two daughters at the school in years 6 and 1.

 


   Mr Steven Fairclough : parent governor

I am a Parent Governor and began my term in October 2010.  My daughter moves to Year 1 in September 2011.  We live in Abbey Meads although I now work in London, looking after regulatory training for a US bank.  I serve on the Finance and Staffing Committees at Catherine Wayte and am a keen Liverpool FC supporter.

 
 Mrs Rebecca Deighton : parent governor

 

I have been a Parent Governor now for almost five years and have two daughters at the school in year 6 and year 2. I am currently Chair of the Finance committee. My working background has been mainly in banking and financial management. During my time as Governor I have been part of Catherine Wayte achieving FMSiS status (financial management standards in schools) and building projects such as the Observatory and MUGA and also helping to secure an after school club.

 

 

 

 

 


   Mrs Elaine Shergold : parent governor

I have a daughter currently in year 1 and have lived in Abbey Meads area for over 10 years. I became a parent governor in January 2011 and will be part of the teaching and learning committee. I am a business analyst currently working with a global company running a set of projects to encourage a culture of knowledge sharing and to refocus the corporate intranet to be a strategic business tool. I enjoy cooking, continual learning and am currently taking a course on creative writing.

 

 
Miss Rachel Williams : associate governor

I have been teaching at Catherine Wayte for 9 years and am part of the Senior Leadership Team. I am Literacy Co-ordinator and currently teach Year 2. I was a staff governor for 3 years and enjoyed this opportunity greatly.
I live in Swindon and I have a daughter who attends Haydon Meadow Pre-School.



    Miss Beth Watts : staff governor

I have been a teacher at CWPS since April 2007 and currently teach in Y2.
 
I am subject co-ordinator for Geography which I really enjoy and I have recently taken on some responsibility for managing the school website. I am interested in ICT and how technology is constantly changing.

I have been teaching at CWPS since September 2006. I joined the staff as an NQT and have taught in all of the Key Stages. I currently enjoy teaching in the Foundation Stage and I am responsible for coordinating Physical Education, Social,Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) and Healthy Schools. Prior to joining CWPS, I spent a few years teaching English in Japan, where my love for helping children to learn really started. I am orginally from Wales but now live in Swindon with my husband and son. My son is three years old and attends Glitterbugs preschool.
