A Trowbridge primary school has been kind enough to offer up to four placements to our students for work experience this year in October. If you are interested in spending your week being a Classroom Assistant working with primary age children and would like to be put forward for one of these placements then please come to the Careers office to see either Mrs Brooks or Mrs Hanlon. I have also been offered one placement with a local publishing company (Trowbridge). If any of you has a particular interest in this area and would enjoy the week learning about this profession then please let Mrs Brooks know. | No | On 7th July, 2009, 21 students from Years 9 and 10 accepted the challenge laid down by the Army to participate in the inter-schools challenge held at Colerne Army base near Bath. Over 210 students from Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset took part on the day with a total of 750 young people attending over the three day event.
Students completed physical challenges, problem-solving skills and command tasks. They met specialist medical staff, staff from the General Adjutants Corps, commanding officers and newly recruited solders. They had an insight into the training techniques and routine Army practices such as laying a communications line, wearing camouflage, preparing weapons and sleeping in the open. Although neither group was among the winners, special mention must go to Jack Miluk, Year 10, who was ‘last man running’ in the bleep test, a fitness challenge in which he competed against trained soldiers. | 31/07/2009 |
