 Introduction

Science is diverse and exciting. Through its study young people will be helped to explore the world around them and understand so many things that have such relevance to daily life. In the Physics Department we are committed to providing engaging, challenging and inspiring lessons through a range of experiences. Scientific enquiry is a major feature of the curriculum, whilst ICT Citizenship and Work Related Learning are incorporated providing students with opportunities to develop their personal and social skills.

Physics has enormous breadth and depth which extends into every area of our lives. It provides a model/explanation of the world around us ranging from the expansion of the Universe and the evolution of stars to sub-atomic particles. Physics provides the knowledge and understanding to change our environment, from the development of keyhole surgery to rocket science and satellite technology: from the design of bridges to the evolution of the Internet.

Students study Physics as a discrete subject within science from the start of Year 7 and throughout the school. The department is well resourced with apparatus and projectors and lessons are taught by subject specialists.
