The increasing use of technology in all aspects of society makes confident, creative and productive use of ICT an essential skill for life. At St Augustine’s we are committed to making the use of ICT central to the whole school curriculum.
ICT capability is fundamental to participation and engagement in modern society. It encompasses not only the mastery of technical skills and techniques, but also the understanding to apply these skills purposefully, safely and responsibly in learning, everyday life and employment.
Importance of learning ICT
- It enables rapid access to ideas and experiences from a wide range of people, communities and cultures, and allows pupils to collaborate and exchange information on a wide scale.
- It supports initiative and independent learning, as pupils are able to make informed judgments about when and where to use ICT to enhance their learning and the quality of their work.
- It can be used to find, develop, analyze and present information, as well as to model situations and solve problems.
- It acts as a powerful force for change in society and hence citizens should have an understanding of the social, ethical, legal and economic implications of its use, including how to use it safely and responsibly.

Learning and undertaking activities in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) contributes to achievement of the curriculum aims for all young people to become:

Resources available
The school has 5 dedicated IT suites that are used for teaching ICT lessons. Each room is equipped with an interactive whiteboard, a printer and enough computers for each student. Students are also taught using some of the latest IT software’s, thereby gaining valuable skills that prepare them for the world of work.
In addition, the school has a dedicated team of fulltime IT technicians who ensure that all the systems are running efficiently and get updated regularly.
