Children prosper in school where there is a mutually supportive relationship between home and school. Your child’s pre-school needs can be greatly helped by attending playgroups or nursery education. We have close links with local playgroups and nurseries. The Early Years Manager has responsibility for the induction of children into our school. We aim to make the introduction to school as smooth and as happy a process as possible for each child. Currently, new entrants are admitted to school in the year in which they are five. In the half term before starting school, new entrants will be invited to spend some time in school. Our Reception teacher visits all feeder playgroups and nurseries in the local area and arranges an early meeting with parents and children, where parents have the opportunity to talk to the teacher about their child. This is followed by two one-hour visits to school for the child. These visits help children to get to know their class teachers and classroom, as well as enabling them to become familiar with the school environment. This ensures a smooth entry into school.
Admission Dates:
From September 2011, all reception age children will be offered full time places when they start primary or infant school. In previous years, those born between 1 April and 31 August attended on a part-time basis for at least a term.
If parents want their child to attend part time from September 2011 or to delay entry until later on in the academic year, they must contact the school directly to arrange this.
