Myths, Legends, Castles & Dragons

This is our exciting topic until Easter. We'll explore myths and legends from all around the world, including of course a number from around Wiltshire and the children will write their own myths and legends. We will then use our own myths to make pop up books and present some as animated stories using modelling clay or lego and stop frame animation.
On top of this the children will also make some moving dragons or monsters using a simple pneumatic system and will explore castles, thinking about who lived in them, what they were for and what they were like to live in.

The children have been working together using Merlin to write an online shared Myth. Most of the children have now added to this piece of collaborative writing and are fired up to keep adding more.

 Our class myth

On a frosty day a menacing monster attacked a small village.  The monster had razor sharp teeth with wings the size of elephants, its horns were gleaming white ... it was a dragon.

All of the people where terrified. All of the houses where burnt into ashes and some of the people where homeless.

The next morning the towns folk got together and had a meeting. They said "some one must go and kill the monster." A  very small boy went to kill the monster. His name was sir Albert he knew why he had to kill the monster or dragon. To save his village.

"Blimey!" Sir Albert thought

"WELL GO AND KILL THAT TERREFING RELPULSIVE MONSTER!!!" shouted the head man.

"Ok." Off he went. He sailed to the monster and he came to a forest full of Ju-Ju berry trees - green and slimy and poisonous! Sir Albert saw a leprechaun and asked him if he has seen or heard the yukky monster. "Yes, he is going to lava fall" The leprechaun said, "Do you know how to get there?"

"yes."

Despite their frightful thoughts, they still went on to kill the monster.  They walked through a very prickly forest of Ju Ju Berry trees and into a tunnel that lead them to Lava Falls. The monster was at the otherside drinking lava. The monster saw Sir Albert and flew towards him. Just then a duck walked by.  The monster opened it's mouth and Sir Albet stabbed it in the mouth and he killed the monster.

Soon Sir Albert came to a place called 'The River of Life' there he met an old woman, but she wasnt any old woman she was a serpent in disguise. The old woman asked him "are you lost?"

"No, but I'm on a quest to get back home."

The old woman asked "shall I help you find your way home? I know the way."

"yes please." said Sir Albert, unaware of the danger he was facing.

The ugly old woman pointed in the wrong direction to a swamp. Sir Albert was terrified as he strolled towards the swamp as a black three headed serpent with terrifying red eyes that shot lightning slithered out towards him.  The serpent was guarding the golden sword of power. A little fire elf popped over and launched a fire arrow at the serpent and killed it.
Then Sir Albert grabbed the golden sword and fled with the fire elf unaware of what was right behind them.

Then he came to a gate leading to nothing he was well and truely lost.
When he stepped through he was in a dark and gloomy house. In the distance he saw a shadow like figure, when he looked at it, it was someone looking down at the ground. Then all of a sudden it popped up! It was a skeleton with blue lights as eyes, it said "WELCOME TO MY PARISITE DIMENSION, WELCOME."

Then a giant creature broke through a wall it had razor sharp teeth with wings the size of elephants and its horns were gleaming white. It was the dragon!

The skeleton got a scyth and said "BY THE WAY, THE NAMES DEATH" all without moving his teeth!

Sir Albert turned away from the Skeleton to see the Dragon that he had been sent to kill. Now it was hunting him. He shouted at the Skeleton "While I have blood in my viens, I WILL NOT DIE TODAY!!".

Then the skeleton blew his death horn and raised an army of mini skeletons. The Fire elf fired an arrow high into to dark sky and loads of fire driped off the arrow and made a message to the Fire elves. It said "Need help! Fire elf leader." So the sparks of flames fell from the arrow and hundreds of soldier fire elfs teleported to the battelfield, skeletons were shouting and fire elfs where booming. Then the battle began. There where fire arrows flying through the air and skeletons dying. Soon the battle ended and and there were crushed skeletons every where. Sir Albert said to the fire elves "thanks," then he set of on the way back.

When Sir Albert  was in his boat for his village. He saw somthing moving in the water. It got faster and faster.
Suddenly, a massive whirlpool appeared and it was spinning faster than a bowling ball.  A Serpent swam out of the massive whirlpool towards him. He told his crew to turn the ship around. So they did. There were Serpents all around, they were trapped! Sir Albert had a bow and arrow he shot his arrow, the arrow transformed into thousands of smaller arrows. They shot all the Serpents except one it shot towards Sir Albert like a bullet.
Suddenly, the fire elf popped up he shot the last Serpent. The arrow killed him.
Something was flying in the sky. Sir Albert thought it was some birds connected to each other but it was a dragon. It had wings like elephants and gleeming white teeth.

Sir Albert shouted, "Blimey, doesn't this creature ever die?"
It swooped down and nearly caught Sir Albert, but he ducked just in time, but it came back!  This time, it flew like a cheetah flying and it nearly chopped Sir Albert's head off. Sir Albert span around and got his sparkling silver sword  out and chopped the

dragons head off! There was blood all over the boat and the water turned red.

"DISGUSTING!" exclaimed Sir Albert.
He sat down exhausted from his battle, and fell quietly asleep.

CRACK! BANG! CRASH! ....
Sir Albert woke up in a terrified fright. The heavens had opened, thunder and lighting  were booming all around Sir Albert. Sir Albert said  "That  was very terrifying to me... My ears are ringing!"

Sir Albert reached into his pocket and pulled out his father's brand new shiny pocket watch, but it was a bit rusty now. "Oh no! I should be getting home." So he climbed back upto the deck of his boat and set sail on the deadly seas. The wind  was gushing against him, so it was hard to get away from the island.
