Beech Class Homelearning

Welcome to Beech Class Homelearning Page!

1) Homework task - usually around 45 mins. Homework will be handed out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Wednesday. If you need a bit more time to do your homework for whatever reason, just ask!
2) Spellings - We will do our spellings every day in class. Spellings books should be kept in school but your spellings will be on this page so you can practise them at home. We will test them on a Monday and then you will be given new spellings.
3) Timestables -  practise every day. Every Monday you will do a "times table test". To move on to the next level of test you need to get full marks!
4) Reading - as you know, you must read every single day! Ask your parent to sign your Reading Record (if you don't have one, let me know) even if you have read independently.
5) P.E. will be on a Tuesday and a Thursday. At some point over the year you will all swim on a Tuesday.

Update: PE will now be on a Thursday afternoon with Mrs Fossett.

Spellings and Homework!

Homework for this weekend is to make your crown for the parade on Jubilee day. I'll post more details on Friday, but at least you can get thinking!

18/05/12

Hello! Your homework is another 'Jubilee' based competition, the details are in the Document Library - look for Beech Class Homework 18.05.12.

We have had a few homeworks like this of late, so I'd also like you to do a bit of division practise.

Using the method of division that you have been using in class, please make up 5 division problems and solve them. Some of you used the 'bus stop' and some of you used the number line method. I would stick to numbers smaller than 100 if you've been using a number line, but those 'bus stop' people can go wild and try some bigger numbers. I've put some examples in the Document Library (along with the Jubilee thing) if you are unsure.

Oh, and keep your fingers crossed on Saturday afternoon, because my football team, Hearts, are playing in the Scottish Cup Final against their arch rivals Hibs!

Hello! I've put "Axe Soup", the story we've been learning, in the Document Library. For homework, I'd like you to make sure that you know at least half of it off by heart. If you can remember it all that'd be even better.

You should know some of it already and remember, using actions will really help you!

It will really help with our literacy lessons on Tuesday and Wednesday as we will be planning our own stories based on it.

Good luck!

A big thanks to all those children and their parents who brought in sweet jars for our tombola - they're very much appreciated. They will help us raise lots of money at the school fete.

Oh, and remember, there is no school on Monday!

I am also going to do a special times table test after the holiday. Year 3s - you should make sure you know your x6 x7 x8 x9 tables and Year 4s - you need to know all your tables. If you already know them off by heart then you should make sure that you can answer random questions really quickly.

Have a great break!

For homework this week, I'd like you to organise your resources for your Vicar's Easter Challenge "vehicle". You will now have agreed with the other children in your group (or you may have decided to work alone) what items you each need to bring in.

We will spend some of Monday morning making our entries and the challenge will take place on Monday afternoon. Therefore, you must make sure you bring in all the things you need on MONDAY. I will bring some junk in, but my resources will be limited!

I've given you a paper copy of the instructions just in case.

Good afternoon boys and girls!

Two bits of homework for you!

1) Firstly, I'd like you write a prayer. Here are the topics I'd like you to write your prayer about.

Saturn/Jupiter - Humility
Neptune/Saturn - Justice
Mars - Friendship

I've put some examples of prayers in the document library so you can get a few ideas.

We will try and use these prayers in assembly over the next few months. Any that we don't use, will be put in a special class prayer book. Put them on A5 (half of A4) paper and do a nice border around them.

2) This week, we've been learning the "Unluckiest Man" story off by heart. You should know about 80 % of this story by now. I'd like you to finish learning the rest of it.

Once you have done this, I'd like you to read it (without a copy in front of you!!!) to three different people. To prove that you have done it, get the people who have listened to you to write a comment in your homework book.

I have put a copy of the story in the document library!

Beech Class Homework

24th February 2012

A couple of weeks ago, we had a go at writing some of our own poetry. This week’s homework is based on this.

A haiku is a form of Japanese Poetry. Each poem has three lines, each with a special pattern. Traditionally, the first line will have 5 syllables, the second 7 and the third 5. These poems represent a WOW moment and are designed to capture something beautiful.

Here is an example.

Look out my window,

Snow is falling everywhere,

The world is frozen.

TASK: Write 3 Haikus about Ancient Greece! Try and stick to the 5/7/5 structure!

Louis did a fantastic website for his homework project, make sure you have a look here: http://louisgauldgreece.webnode.com/

Elspeth has done a PowerPoint which is in the document library.

Have a great weekend!
