EXTENSION TO THE BUILDING
On 17th May work began on our new Library and a small extension to our Staff Room.  The builders have been able to make excellent progress due to the good weather.  In the first week the foundations were completed.  In the second week the block and brickwork has been finished and over half term the roof trusses arrived.

Here are some of the photos of work in progress.  The project is due to be completed on 6th August and will be ready for use at the start of the new academic year.

By the end of June work on the roof will be completed and the internal plasterwork and fitting out can take place.

WILTSHIRE WILDLIFE TRUST

We had a visit from the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust and our children worked with them to construct a willow dome in the grounds of the school.  Weed control fabric was put down first to mark out the area.  The longest willow whips (about 11ft) were planted to give the structure its shape.  Lots of shorter lengths of willow were then woven and tied into the frame.  The finished dome should start sprouting after Easter and we look forward to seeing it in full growth over the next couple of years.

ECO SCHOOLS GREEN FLAG AWARD

Congratulations to our Eco Council who, under the leadership of Mrs Anna Woodman, have successfully completed the Green Flag Award - one of only 6 schools in Wiltshire to do so.

The children have been working on several different environmental themes over the past couple of years as they have progressed through the Bronze and Silver Awards.  The Green Flag required involvement in a large scale community project and in our case this has involved working with the church to develop the churchyard.

We look forward to flying the real Green Flag very soon.

Wiltshire Young Carers Service
This year the school is supporting Wiltshire Young Carers as its chosen charity.

Young Carers care for relatives with disabilities or long term illness with their day to day needs.  The charity has 900 young carers on its database in Wiltshire, many of whom are caring for parents with drug or alcohol dependency, or serious mental health problems.

The charity provides support, advance, emotional support and practical assistance as well as respite and the chance to relax with other young people in similar circumstance.

It services are free including the provision of transport and residential breaks

If you would like to know more the charity has its own website

CLASS 2'S GOLDEN WORSHIP

Class 2's Golden Worship was a celebration of Mothering Sunday.  The children sang and shared pictures that they had drawn of their mothers and talked about some of the ways that other countries celebrate Mothers' Day.  During the service parents were presented with flowers and simnel cakes.  Thank you to all of the parents who were able to join us.

CLASS 3'S EGYPTIAN ASSEMBLY

The story begins with the Pharaoh and his slaves being entertained by the dancers.

The farmers tell the Great Pharaoh about the rich soil of the River Nile and the good harvest that it will bring.

The scribes show their hieroglyph pictures which spell out the Pharaoh's name (RAMSES).  The embalmers show their skills in mummification.

The storytellers tell the story of how the god Thoth won an extra five days into the year which only had 360 days.

Howard Carter was a great explorer who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamen.

Jean-Christophe Champollion cracked the code of the Rosetta stone in 1822 so people could read hieroglyphics.
