OUR AWARDS
Inclusion Award

We are extremely proud to have been awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark. The school was assessed for a whole day on 18th July 2011 during which time the assessor spoke to different groups of children, parents, staff, governors as well as having an ‘open door’ access to the rest of the school. Achieving this award is recognition of our dedication to ensuring that all members of our school community are welcomed and valued.

International School Award

In September 2011 we were delighted to achieve the Full International Award from the British Council. Jo Lewis, our International Leader worked so hard to co-ordinate an impressive body of work which highlighted the wide range of activities and links that connect children at Walwayne with the wider world both here and abroad.
In June 2010 the school achieved the British Council's International School Award at the Intermediate Level (Developing Internationalism) as part of its work on the global dimension.
We demonstrated that we:
-
have embedded global issues and international awareness into our curriculum;
-
have exciting whole school international projects (this year as part of our Citizenship Year, each class will be turned into a country and the school hall will become an airport – every child will have an opportunity to travel many miles to visit each country that week);
-
have links with schools in India, France, Nigeria, Swindon as well as projects across Trowbridge schools;
-
have visits from teachers abroad as well as sending our teachers to visit other schools abroad.
Let’s Get Cooking

Well done to Mrs Oates, the children and parent helpers who were awarded with the Let’s Get Cooking Award for the year 2010-11. Mrs Oates runs a very popular after-school cooking club which is part of the Let’s Get Cooking network. Since starting the club:
-
63 club members have learnt new cooking skills;
-
152 new cooking skills have been taught to club members;
-
36 club sessions have been held;
-
3 community cooking events have been held;
-
142 parents, family members and people from the local community were involved.
Sing Up Silver Award
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of everyone here at school, we have been awarded the Silver Sing Up Award. A huge thank you to Mrs Rowe, our Sing Up Leaders and The School Choir who have done so much to promote singing here at Walwayne. Starting from September, we will be singing for the Gold Award.

Artsmark Gold
In June 2010, we were very proud to be awarded Artsmark “Gold”, the highest award available, in recognition of our excellent arts provision. In order to achieve the accreditation from the Arts Council England, the school had to undergo a comprehensive audit of its arts provision. The final bid was very impressive revealing the enormous strengths in the expressive arts work in the school. Beyond the curriculum aspects, it looked at the partnerships with professionals from the arts sector, trips, clubs, community artists, visitors to the school. The Arts Council also recognised the achievements of all our children who have been involved in school and theatre productions.
Tracey Newbury, who led the mammoth task of achieving Artsmark status, said, “Everyone in the school has worked so hard to achieve this award - staff and children alike. We aim to provide the best possible opportunities in music, art, drama and dance at Walwayne Court School and this award endorses our efforts."
To launch our ‘Global Arts Year’ in September 2009, one of our talented children won a competition to design a special logo that encapsulated the theme for the year.

Eco Awards
 In September 2008, the school embarked on the internationally recognised Eco Award scheme which operates in over 80 countries world wide. Two years ago an Eco Council was born consisting of enthusiastic and dedicated Eco representatives. The Eco Council carried out a whole school review to look at what areas we could improve and decided to target: recycling, waste and energy minimisation. Due to their hard work and commitment, they achieved both Bronze and Silver Eco awards. It is hoped that they will go from strength to strength and achieve Gold Eco award by the end of July 2011.
