SWGfL Merlin

SWGfL Merlin - Learning Without Limits

SWGfL Merlin, centrally funded by member LAs, provides the foundation for school learning platforms across the South West of England:
  • Supporting schools, teachers, students, parents and governors to communicate and collaborate effectively
  • Assisting Local Authorities to communicate and collaborate widely with schools, and across the region
  • Facilitating school community, inter-school and regional collaboration
  • Providing a simplified sign on to a range of additional resources and content
  • Ensuring users can access the service any time, anywhere there is an internet connection
  • In line with Government Agenda such as Every Child Matters, Personalised Learning and Access to Information.

For further information and advice on how to apply for training, please contact Helen Southwell helensouthwell@ictcentre.wiltslea.org.uk

 My First Place

My First PlaceMy First Place is the Early Years interface. Children can access their own diary, online file storage areas, drawing tools and a simple word processor. Their creations can be combined into online e-books to be shared with classmates. Functionality, tools and sharing is controlled and managed by the teacher ensuring that the area is moderated and e safe.

 Our Places

Our PlacesOur Places provide shared online places where resources and collaboration tools can be used by members of that place. Members may include all the children in a class, a group of parents or perhaps staff from a number of different schools. Our Places can include a wide variety of tools and features including blogs, wikis, discussion forums, targeted news, shared calendar, document libraries and surveys. Our places facilitate inter-school, school to local authority and regional collaboration amongst students, between teachers, from parents to teachers and teachers to students.

 My Place

My PlaceMy Place provides each user with a ‘virtual desktop’ and quick and easy access to a range of useful tools. Once allocated, this personal area will stay with them when they move schools within the SWGfL region

 Public Shared Places

Public shared spaces provide an open resource for Teachers and those involved in supporting Learning and Teaching. The shared spaces include examples of good practice, case studies, opportunities to collaborate with others and anything that will help practitioners to support children. There are currently shared spaces for SEN, Languages and Functional Skills with sites under construction for English an additional language, Geography and Video Conferencing. There is an open discussion forum where you can post your ideas for further Public Shared Spaces.
