Curriculum

The school is committed to the provision of a broad and balanced curriculum based on the requirements of the National Curriculum. At Baden-Powell and St. Peter's School, Years 4, 5 and 6 are in Key Stage 2 and Year 7 children are beginning their Key Stage 3 programme of study.

The subjects of the National Curriculum are divided into two sections:

The Core Subjects

Literacy, Numeracy, Science, Information Communications Technology (ICT) and Religious Education.

The Foundation Subjects

Humanities (Geography and History), Physical Education, Art, Music, Design Technology (DT) and Citizenship. French is now studied in all year groups.

Pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 receive a daily Mathematics and a daily Literacy lesson.  In Year 7, Mathematics and English teaching follows the requirements of the "Key Stage 3 Strategy".

Emphasis in school is placed on enjoying educational experiences and learning how to learn. Pupils are encouraged by recognition of their own achievements. Teachers understand that children need to acquire knowledge but that they also need the necessary skills and values to development ideas. We understand that school is only a part of a child's world and aim, along with parents, to ensure that what is learnt and experienced is relevant to the wider world and the child's experience within it.
