Welcome to the Literacy Curriculum Website

The purpose of this website is to support learning and teaching in Literacy On our home page you can view news, most recently added documents, Literacy web links, and click on links to our 'Events Calendar' and 'Contacts' page. Using our drop down navigation at the top of the page you can move to any of the pages around the site.  Some of our Literacy links take you to our Merlin Our Places which will require you to login to Merlin.  This website is still 'Work in Progress' so if there is anything you feel that we have missed, do please let us know! If you would like to know more about Merlin and how you can contribute to our internal sites please contact claire.ridsdale@southglos.gov.uk.

World Book Night is on the 23rd April.  This is a real opportunity to talk about reading and maybe engage those who are less keen!  If you sign up to the WBN website you can create your own profile (like Facebook) and share information about what you're reading.

Also, 25 WBN titles have been identified this year.  Anyone can sign up and receive 25 copies of a book they love for FREE to dissmenate to friends and family - spreding the joy of reading!

With many schools developing reading as a focus this year, WBN can provide a host of ooprtunities for developing the wider reading curriculum.  Have a look at the website: http://www.worldbooknight.org/about-world-book-night

***Y1 Screening Check Update***Use SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
The Assessment and Reporting Arrangements (ARA) and sample materials for the Y1 screening check are now available from the DfE website.

The guidance states:  "the sample list of 40 words is designed to help teachers familiarise themselves with the phonics screening check and consider whether their children are on course to learn the type of phonics knowledge included. It is not intended to be used as practice material for children."

The catalogue of resources that can be purchased using the £3000 DfE match funding is now available at: http://www.espo.org/pdfs/phonics-catalogue-2011.pdf.   Several orders can be made over a period of time up to an equivalent spend of £6000.  (£3000 from school, £3000 from DfE)  The window closes in March 2013.

Free Rapid Phonics Taster PackUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
Rapid have produced a new resource to support pupils who need phonics 'catch-up.'  A free taster pack is available to let you have a look at the materials.  Follow this link: http://www.pearsonphonics.co.uk/Home.aspx then click on the Rapid Phonics tab.

Y6 Writing TestUse SHIFT+ENTER to open the menu (new window).
Schools can choose whether to opt for the internal or external test this year. (The internally marked test can be completed any time after being received, although must be done in test conditions.  The externally marked test will be completed in SATs week, 14th-18th May).  Whichever option is chosen ALL TESTS need to be ordered by 30th NOVEMBER 2011 via the NCA Tools website: https://ncatools.education.gov.uk/Test-Orders/Home.aspx
